Hannah Kearney

Hannah is a landscape painter, working primarily in acrylic on canvas or panel. Her work holds a balance between abstraction and representation of place. Each painting is created in two layers: first, a layer painted entirely through abstraction. This layer is grounded in an exploration of a piece of music, text, or simply by mood and movement. Then, a second layer is added, carving from abstraction land, trees, sea, skies, or roadways, making just enough marks to see form take shape. The interaction of light, color, and the base layer of intentional abstract mark-making is the dance of her work. Hannah’s work depicts real places, local to Metrowest Boston or Cape Cod, with many pieces featuring the nature and architecture of Framingham.

Hannah received a degree in studio art from Brandeis University, and paints from her home studio near Saxonville. She is fascinated by the interplay between creativity, spirituality, and mindfulness, and is a trained facilitator of the Jewish Studio Process. Hannah is also an avid needlepointer and needlepoint designer.
